Hasting Seaside – 6 August 2022

The coach was full for the HASWA annual seaside trip again. It was a beautiful sunny day and everybody was impressed with the Hasting beachfront. There were lots of activities for the children and adults to enjoy and everybody visited the new pier.

HASWA Stars drama group were invited to see Follies at the National Theatre London.  The group met at the  HASWA centre and travelled by minibus. Flo Paul, Community Producer at the National Theatre, led us into the Olivier Theatre for the Follies performance.  Everybody said the scale of this auditorium was breathtaking and thoroughly enjoyed the show.

The Ladykillers – 19 October 2017

HASWA Stars drama group were invited to see The Ladykillers at the Queens Theatre Hornchurch.  The group were impressed with the show’s inventive set which sees Mrs Wilberforce’s house rotate and open out like a book.  Everybody enjoyed the stage play and were left smiling.  

Broadstairs seaside – 6 August 2017

54 HASWA members with their family and friends left at 9am for Broadstairs. It was a lovely day and everybody found the coastal town of Broadstairs, charming and enjoyed the relaxed and family friendly seaside town. The fish & chips were delicious as well!!

Keukenhof – 27 to 30 April 2017

51 HASWA members left early on Thursday morning and travelled to Folkestone for the Euro tunnel to Calais for a 4 day trip to Dutch bulbfields. They drove through the beautiful sights of Northern France, Belgium and onto Holland making stops en-route. After the long journey everybody had a relaxing evening. Friday morning, we drove to Keukenhof gardens where we saw the beautiful Tulip Fields with hectares of colour and fragrance. Saturday morning after breakfast we all went on a trip to Maraudadam “Holland in Miniature” and visted Delft later in the afternoon. On Sunday we left for the journey back to Calais with coffee and lunch stops. Everybody came back happy and for some members it was their first trip abroad. They are all looking forward to the next one.

Hasting Seaside – 24 July 2016

Picnic Hornchurch Country Park – 8 June 2016

To celebrate Carers’ week HASWA carers’ and members enjoyed a picnic lunch at Hornchurch Country Park. It was a beautiful sunny day and everybody enjoyed relaxing afternoon.

Dhamma Dipa Meditation Centre Open day – 5 June 2016

HASWA’s members took the opportunity to view the centre facilities, learn more about the practice and the benefits it brings, and even try a ‘taster’ session of ‘Anapana’ meditation. There was a guided tours of the centre, introductory talks and films about Vipassana Meditation, woodland walks and complimentary cream teas.

City Hall – 21 September 2015

HASWA’s visit took place in one of the committee rooms on the lower ground floor of the City hall.  Our guide explained the roles and responsibilities of the GLA, Mayor of London and London Assembly. The visit included a presentation, a selection of short video clips on London’s fascinating history and shown around the areas of the building open to the public on the day which included the Assembly hall. 

Clacton Seaside – 26 July 2015

55 HASWA members went to Claction on Sunday 26th July. Everybody excitedly boarded the coach at 9am and arrived at Claction at 11am. It was a rainy day but everybody made most of the day relaxing and nobody was blown away!! 

Houses of Parliament Visit – 11th July 2014 & 22nd September 2014

20 HASWA members visited the Houses of Parliament on Friday, 11th July. The tour was kindly booked by James Brown from the Office of Jon Cruddas MP and started at 10.40am.  We met our tour guide at Westminster Hall and our tour included: the Queen’s Robing Room, Royal Gallery, Prince’s Chamber, Peers’ Lobby and Corridor, Central Lobby, Commons Corridor, Division Lobby, House of Commons Chambers. Everybody enjoyed the history, politics, stunning art and architecture. After the tour everybody had lots of questions to ask which were answered by our lovely tour guide we sat down in the Jubilee Café for much need refreshments.  Everybody found the visit very interesting and informative.  Due to demand we have organised another visit to the Houses of Parliament on Monday 22nd September. 

Brighton seaside – 27th July 2014

55 HASWA members went to Brighton on Sunday 27th July. Everybody excitedly boarded the coach at 9am and we arrived at sunny Brighton at 11am. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day and everybody tucked into their picnics by the seafront. The elderly members relaxed in their deckchairs while the more energetic members went to explore the quirky boutiques at The Lanes or walked to Brighton pier to the fairground attractions and arcade. Everybody had a great time.

Eastbourne seaside – 28 July 2013

HASWA’s annual seaside trip to Eastbourne was on 28th July. It was very popular, one coach was quickly booked within the first week and we had to get another coach due to the popularity, still leaving 20 people disappointed as no seats were available for them!!  In total 96 excited members of HASWA left at 9:30 ready to go, on a sunny, bright morning.  As we arrived the HASWA members got off the coach and went straight onto the beach. Everyone sat down on the beach and had a very tasty picnic. Many of the children were also, very excited to go into the sea. Some of the HASWA members even went onto the pier, where they could buy fantastic souvenirs to remember there great time at Eastbourne Beach. There was also a craft fair with homemade jam, jewellery and lots more to see and join the Morris Dancers which everybody found very entertaining.

Rainham Hall – 3rd July 2013

HASWA visited Rainham Hall, a charming and peaceful Georgian House and simple garden, built in 1729 and dating from the early 18th Century.  All the individual buildings are Grade II listed.   A guided tour was given to us by a staff member who explained the history of the historic building dating back to the 18th Century.  After our tour we enjoyed a picnic in the garden which really caught the spirit of what Rainham Hall should be about

Rainham Hall does Bollywood! NT NETWORKING NEWS

On the 6th August, our friends from the Havering Asian Social and Welfare Association (HASWA) came to visit us again. Their previous visit was last September when they had a tour of Rainham Hall which is now being extensively renovated. Approximately 50 people of various ages were greeted at the Garden gate, where everyone enjoyed a picnic on the Rainham Hall lawn. In no time at all, everyone had made themselves comfortable and it was lovely to see them all chatting and enjoying various games. Lunch then arrived and as you can imagine, the food and drink was all very well received and everyone was extremely happy. Then after lunch, we were then treated to some impromtu “Bollywood” dancing which many people joined in and thoroughly enjoyed.

Later on, they were taken on a guided tour of the garden and orchard, which they seem to enjoy. As we have various fruit trees here, they were able to have a taste of the mulberries from our very old Mulberry tree. Many commented on how nice the garden was looking and praised the excellent work that was being done by the Garden Volunteers here. It was a great day and at the end of the visit, we were all so thankful that the rain had stayed away from us. We really enjoyed seeing them all again and look forward to their next visit to Rainham Hall.

HASWA members were very warmly greeted as they arrived at the Rainham Hall and were surprised to see how big the gardens were. HASWA would like to thank Hannah Lewis and Linda Vaughan for all their help in making this picnic very enjoyable. HASWA members had such a great afternoon that they are eagerly waiting for the next visit!

London Eye – 24 June 2013

We visited London eye with HASWA members,  We all met up at Elm Park Station at around 9.30am  with a ground of 15 members and 3 volunteers.  The train took us direct from Elm Park Station to Embankment. We went on the London eye at 12 noon, the views where breath-taking we could clearly see all sights.  It was enjoyed by all had a great time viewing all the sites and made our members dream come true.
